Box Elder releases self-titled album via Steadfast Records/Sweet Cheetah Records!
Salt Lake City-based “bummer punks” Box Elder released its debut album on April 10. This is what the critics are saying:
"The connection to emo, as it was played at the end of the 1990s, is unmistakable. What is especially impressive is Archuleta's fine touch when it comes to catchy pop choruses. The opener ‘Takes One To Know One’ is already a prime example of how to perfectly combine intensity, emotion, and melody. With ‘Post College Days,’ Box Elder has also managed a small hit that sticks immediately on the first listen and comes across almost anthemic. The driving ‘Bug’ then stands out due to extremely varied songwriting – I love it." -Crazewire
“‘Box Elder’ is more than just a collection of songs; it is a document of transformation. By inviting others into his private world of bedroom compositions, Archuleta has created his most complete artistic statement, turning the shadows of isolation into a bright, resonant chorus of shared experience.” -The Big Takeover
“Box Elder’s recent relocation from Wyoming to Salt Lake City, and the resulting lineup changes, hasn’t slowed them down one iota. On the contrary, the band seems stronger than ever. I last reviewed Box Elder’s Minimums LP back in 2022. I noted that it was full of pop hooks and dripping with emotion, and was expansive, with elements of dream pop and emotional pop punk. This is still true, but the band sounds amped up, stronger, and more powerful. When key people in a band relocate and there are major lineup changes, it often spells a slow end for a band. It seems in the case of Box Elder, it’s only strengthened them.” -Jersey Beat
