“Arms & Armour are the dystopian soundtrack of the modern world. The duo of Lauren Voss (vocals, guitar, and synths) and John Panza (drums, drum machine programming, guitar, and synths) play music that’s a mix of industrial, goth, doom, and icy cold post punk. Guitars are heavy and sludgy, the vocals melancholic, and the tempos are slow and deliberate. The result is the music that foretells of existential threat in a post-apocalyptic world. We hear the wind howling in the empty places, and echoes of the past that we all ignored that, had we listened, could have prevented the fate in which we find ourselves. Angular laments are juxtaposed against drum and bass beats, while guitar dissonance expresses how broken the world is. This is the slower drugged out vision that Future Sounds of London gave us on their Dead Cities album. There’s something hypnotic and brooding in the music, something that gives succor in the bleakness of life. Hang in there. All is not lost. The album ends with a delicate sign of hope with ‘Ash’s Song.’ Maybe this isn’t the end. Somber and reflective.”
