SPIN reviews FVRMN’s Suicides LP
Jason Pettigrew offers a really awesome review of FVRMN’s Suicides album in the July 2025 issue of SPIN Magazine.
“Five albums in and I’m just now discovering Tokyo’s FVRMN (“fever moon”). The band’s new album is ominously titled Suicides and the chief influence on frontman/ex-pat North Carolinian J Holmes has been the significant health scares he endured to create these nine compelling songs. Due July 25 from Steadfast/Sweet Cheetah Records, the rec is powered by rough-hewn vocals (think Joe Strummer, Leatherface’s Frankie Stubbs), a guitar attack that erects homages to post-hardcore titans (Bob Mould, J. Robbins, maybe Steve Wynn), and genius quips (‘your friends thing I’m crazy / your dad thinks I’m drunk’). If you love loud guitar rock, but have absolutely no use for paralytically boring earnest dudes drinking IPAs and playing with their beards, you need to acquire this immediately. If it doesn’t stir you, have a friend drive you to a crematorium and try life as a pile of ashes, seriously.”
